Flamingos & Sunsets of Mannar, January 2013

North-West Sri Lanka, and you conjure up images of arid geography, scorched earth. But this January was just different! Never have we seen the land of the Baobab Tree so lush and green. Monsoonal deluges, heavy flooding in fact had filled up every lagoon and even created lagoons where lagoons had never been. Brimming water holes, home to a myriad of waders... ..and the Greater Flamingos with their young - flocks of hundreds. Amazingly beautiful in flight. Two days was just not enough.
